Yves Joris
Taisia Korotkova (b. 1980) is a contemporary Russian artist whose work confronts the complex and urgent topic of the relationship between science and humanity, including space exploration, the latest human reproduction technologies, and the legacy left by the Soviet nuclear era.
Taisia Korotkova focused on blogs of stalkers that describe their visits to abandoned objects (using a genre akin to folklore), as the impetus for her new project. The forest, in traditional fairy tales, is an important part of the story associated with the memory of the sites of rites of passage. In modern urban legends, people go to the forest in search of adventure and special experiences. A stalker who has walked this path feels nearer to being the character of a hero in a fairy tale.
In her works, Taisia Korotkova raises the question of the prehistoric roots growing through a fairy tale in modern culture. In her series of panoramic graphics, “The Dark Forest”, secret objects (that were erected mainly during the Cold War) are entwined with trees, grasses and bushes. These structures resemble both the ritual pyramids of our ancestors and science fiction future inventions.
For her work on the “The Dark Forest” series, Taisia Korotkova used the unusual material of plastic tablecloths. As a reference to the ritual of hospitality (that is part of women’s responsibility in traditional society), they become the seamy side of a militarized “male” world that creates weapons. Sewing the tablecloths into a single canvas, the artist reminds us of the role of the woman as a storyteller of fairy tales, as well as of the role that used to belong to women in ancient rites of passage.
The exhibition features more than 30 works by Taisia Korotkova created in various techniques, including the 19th‒20th C traditions of book illustration that refer to the classic fairy-tale literature.
52 HERTZ
It is with great pride that we'd like to annoince the opening of the new exhibition by our artists Didier Mahieu at Centre d'Art Contemporain du Luxembourg belge. At the heart of the space, place, time, reflection, pictorial and plastic creation, the 52 Hertz *, a solitary, singular whale, where only the empty carcass remains as a witness to its body.
From Dolceacqua ** to Montauban, a trip (the coronation of the trip), a perfect route for this deliberately winding road, between myths, disappearances and reconstructions.
In Montauban, a new meridian, new home port, a whale's body, an absence of a body, with which Didier Mahieu and the crew of six young architects and designers (Bento and Futur Primitif) will themselves become one, in spiritual and / or physical osmosis.
An artistic metaphor for an Odyssey where stranded things give meaning to past and future history. In a world where dialogue with the outside is refused, where the body tends to disappear, artists enter Leviathan, inhabit it, giving meaning to its absence and its displacement.
In the space René Greisch, drawings, paintings and installations by Didier Mahieu invite you to a metaphorical stroll where stories and myths intertwine in documentary and narrative fiction. The fisherman's daughter, "Haenoy" ***, measures beings and landscapes, testifies, as Andrew Wayeth had created in "the Helga suite". An Odyssey where Penelope takes on the role of Odysseus. A poetic and philosophical journey, a path of the sacred.
Opposite, in the ruins of the old forges, a critical and rebellious ship, a machinery emerges. In this construction, the materials used by the artists Bento and Primitive Future are themselves composed of living organisms, linked to fire and breath, giving life, other life, to the body, to the skin, to the flesh of the extinct animal. Their manufacturing processes, in situ, their productions and their creations, suit us at the table of the living. The banquet of the whale stands in the office of the forges where, under the frame, the hull of an inverted boat, will be present the traces, prints, stampings, sketches, testimonies of this research laboratory of the living, turned towards the future.

52 HERTZ

Plato said: ‘Immortal souls are enclosed in mortal bodies’. Then Titus Lucretius
in his poem ‘On the nature of things’, like existentialist A. Camus, elaborated on the futility of an irrepressible thirst for life and inability to achieve life satisfaction, investigating the image of Sisyphus and his inefficient labour.
François Réau creates mellowed graphite outlines, descending like Dionysian streams. François extends life contemplation with his ‘camera obscura’ installation, implementing malnourished branches into a flux of mirrors, a vanitas symbol of impermanent beauty and reflected false essence. Corine Borgnet chooses Vanitas materials: bird bones. The creatures seemed to seize the ease of being, but ‘In icti oculi’ everything passes and the viewer beholds lifeless animal remains, whispering ‘humana vana’. Corinthians 15:52:‘It will happen in a moment, In the blink of an eye, at the last trump’.
The masters of the Golden Age of Dutch and Flemish painting (Juriaan van Streek, Pieter Claesz)depicted a decaying flower or fruit, polemicising on vanity.
Job 14:2: “Man is <..>like a flower, he comes forth, then withers away”.
Earthly and heavenly, Cartesian and dreamy, fragile and durable metamodern visual language articulates the life in its final stage. François Réau, Corine Borgnet and Ekaterina Panikanova will open up a profound discourse:What is eternal? “Ars longa, vita brevis” (life is short but art is eternal).

THE WORLD AFTER?
a solo exhibition by Sabine Pigalle
Sabine Pigalle (Rouen 1963) is a visual artist. Most of her work concentrates on the reinterpretation of myths. Religious history, mythology, Flemish primitive painting and also mannerism provide both the varied sources of her inspiration and the raw materials for artistic explorations. Sabine Pigalle produces hybrid photographs in different series, mainly dedicated to the art of portraiture, that combine the contemporary with references to ancient art.
