EXHIBITIONS

NK  Gallery has the pleasure to announce the solo exhibition of Ivan Razumov - The Flirting Truth of the Image.

NK Gallery has been collaborating with Ivan Razumov for more than 5 years. Ivan’s most important projects featured in NK Gallery were: a solo exhibition City of Sublime Love and Great Fuck (2017) and Games (2019), as well as 3 group projects: SELECTED WORKS, COVERED BY LIGHT and ECHO.

For this new exhibition Ivan Razumov traces the origins of secular art, as the industry for the production of images of desire and seduction, drawing inspiration from the culture of medieval theatre, ceremonies of courtly love and the traditions of political court intrigues. According to the artist, the local generational struggle for power, and the associated need for the creation of alternative communication and signalling systems serves artists, intriguers and revolutionaries well, bypassing monarchical, church or other forms of totalitarian or market tyranny. It also creates the conditions for the functioning of visual art as part of the general process of social emancipation.

Ivan Razumov was born in 1972 in Moscow, in the family of artists, among them are his grandfather, Soviet illustrator Fyodor Konstantinov, and his uncle, the famous cinema and Soviet television artist/illustrator Vladimir Lykov. After studying at the Art School in memory of 1905 and  Surikov Institute, Ivan Razumov began to take part in exhibitions and  to interact with the artistic communities of Moscow and St. Petersburg in the mid-90s, which in turn influenced the formation of the style and theme of his works, his artistic style, generally. He graduated from the Art College in Memory of 1905 (1991) and the Surikov’s State Academy of Arts (1995). He is widely known for his graphic works, which justify his status of «the sharpest pencil of both Russian capitals».

So from the very beginning, Ivan had a profound knowledge of academic graphics; later, he increasingly started to devote himself to free experiment resulting in graphic works and book illustrations (M. Basho works, V.V. Mayakovsky, A.S. Pushkin, Bitova, Peppershtein, Shenderovich Sorokina and as well as scientific and educational literature, collaborated with many magazines). He creates ironic controversial works. Using his artistic skills, the artist harmonically transfers his graphic know-how to colour rich, surreal, symbolic and even sarcastic paintings or drawings.

Actively worked with a variety of art groups - the Inspectorate of Medical Hermeneutics, FenSo, the New Academy. Exhibited in the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia), in the Centre of Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), in the Stedelijk museum (Amsterdam, the Netherlands). His works are in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), the Freud Museum of Dreams (St. Petersburg, Russia), Guerlain House Collection (Levallois-Perret, France) and private collections in Russia, Germany, Belgium, Italy, France and the USA.
